Director Biography
Emory Chao Johnson is a filmmaker settled on the land of the Tongva (Los Angeles Basin) whose work centers on the real and abstract forces that charge new visions of worldbuilding. Their short 默 (TO WRITE FROM MEMORY) premiered at Berlinale and was nominated for a TEDDY Award.
Director's Statement
默 (TO WRITE FROM MEMORY) explores the seams that connect documentary and fiction, archive and memory. Playing with distant intimacy, the film constructs an opaque window into the protagonist’s daily rituals in which each moment contains the potential energy to disrupt the mundane flow.
